After the death of John Morrell, on June 29, 1774, John's three sons Daniel (age 18) Robert (age 17) and James (age 15) petitioned to have Hannah Gary their mother and John Morrell "of New York City, mariner" [their brother] as guardians. [4]

In the will of John Morrell of Newtown, yeoman, he leaves his wife Hannah 50 pounds, son Joseph 25 pounds, and the rest of his estate to seven children John, William, Daniel, Robert, Yanake, Hannah, and an unborn child (James). John's brother Joseph and John's wife Hannah are executors.
