Charles Morrill enlisted as a Private on 15 September 1862 at the age of 39 in Company A, 8th Infantry Regiment Massachusetts, mustering out on 7 August 1863. He then reenlisted in Company A, 59th Infantry Regiment Massachusetts on 5 December 1863, transferred to Company A, 57th Infantry Regiment Massachusetts on 1 June 1865, and mustered out on 30 July 1865.
