Edward Morrill went to San Francisco in April of 1852, working there as a house painter. In 1854, he attempted to return to Albany aboard the ill-fated Yankee Blade, which struck a rock off the coast of southern California and was wrecked. The wreck is well-known, as many gold miners were aboard with their gold. It is unclear whether a passenger list for the Yankee Blade exists that would show whether Edward was travelling alone or with his family. Edward returned to San Francisco for a few more years before finally returning to Albany. [6]
