At the time of his marriage, Ashley C. Morrill was an attorney in Boston. Within a few years, he and his wife Sophia removed with Sophia's mother and two brothers to Minnesota. Ashley C. Morrill was the Indian Agent (with Minnesota Governor Alexander Ramsey) who negotiated the Treaty with the Chippewa in 1863 at the Old Crossing of Red Lake River in Minnesota. By the time of the 1870 census, Ashley lists his occupation as a manufacturer.
