John C. Morrill was editor of the Des Arc Citizen, the first newspaper of Des Arc.

He mustered into the Civil War on March 7, 1862, Gleaves Company, 50th Arkansas Militia. This was the date of the Battle of Pea Ridge, where he was mortally wounded. [5]
