Augustus Morrill enlisted as a private on 8 September 1862 in Company B, 15th Infantry Regiment Vermont. He received a disability discharge on 28 March 1863. He then reenlisted on 21 September 1863 in Comany M, 1st Heavy Artillery Regiment Vermont and served through 29 June 1865.
