FOOTNOTES [1][Anonymous], Vital Records of Amesbury, Massachusetts, to the end of the year 1849 (Topsfield, MA: Topsfield Historical Society, 1913). [2]Henry Cole Quimby, Genealogical history of the Quinby (Quimby) family in England and America (Rutland, Vt.: Tuttle, 1915), 99. Hoyt does not mention Rachel's marriage to Joseph Quimby, however, Hoyt does mention that Moses Morrill mentions his grandson Benj. Quinby in his will. See also Ann Lisa Pearson, Morrill/Morrell Families Association Newsletter , V(1): 171. Rachel was the mother of three illegitimate children by Joseph Quinby Jr of Amesbury, son of Robert and Mary Quinby. (He was Jr. to distinguish him from his uncle Joseph.) When his intentions to marry Lydia Hoyt were published, July 10, 1717, Rachel Morrill protested because Joseph had promised to marry her. However, it is evident by the family histories that Joseph eventually married Lydia Hoyt and they had six children recorded in the Amesbury records. Rachel married Thomas Meekins January 30 1727-8. The court records show that Joseph Quinby was made to support Rachel's three children and they carried the Quinby name. She had no children by Thomas Meekins. Children: Joanna Quinby, Benjamin Quinby, Joseph Quinby.
